UML sells AI automation and web development to Indian SMB founders who are losing leads to faster competitors. As a Business Development Intern you are the top of that funnel — finding the right companies, researching the right person, and getting a reply that turns into a booked call. The outreach is personalised, not blasted. The target is qualified conversations, not vanity metrics.
What you'll do
- Build prospect lists in Apollo using ICP filters — industry, headcount, revenue signals, tech stack (Magento, Salesforce, GoHighLevel, legacy WP), location in India.
- Write and run cold email sequences in Lemlist or Smartlead — 5-step sequences, A/B subject lines, personalised first lines pulled from LinkedIn / company news.
- Work LinkedIn Sales Navigator daily — connection requests, InMail, DM sequences to founders, CMOs, and CROs at D2C, B2B SaaS, real estate, hospitality, and education companies.
- Log every reply, bounce, and booked meeting in HubSpot — keep the leads kanban in /admin/leads current so nothing falls through.
- Hand qualified prospects to senior closers with a one-para briefing note: company, problem hypothesis, what was said, next step.
- Track response rates, reply-to-book conversion, and sequence performance weekly — kill what is not working, double what is.
What we look for
- Written English strong enough to personalise at volume — you can write 80 first lines a day that do not read like templates.
- Comfortable initiating conversations with Indian C-suite — no hesitation reaching a CMO or founder on LinkedIn cold.
- Basic CRM hygiene: every touch logged, every status updated, no contact left in limbo.
- Comfortable with rejection — a 5% reply rate is a good day; you do not spiral on the 95%.
- Nice-to-have: prior internship at a SaaS company or digital agency, even a short one.
- Nice-to-have: used Claude or GPT-4 to research prospects or draft outreach — tells us you default to leverage, not grunt work.
Why this role at UML
Most BD internships hand you a list and a template. Here you learn to build the list, write the system, read the data, and improve the sequence — the full outbound loop. You will be selling AI automation and web development products to founders who are smart and sceptical, which means you get sharper faster. Six months of this is the equivalent of two years in a company where someone else decides the playbook.
Compensation + perks
- Monthly stipend + performance bonus tied to qualified meetings booked.
- Direct access to the founding team — no account manager layer, no middle management.
- Remote-first; Gurugram / Kanpur / Bengaluru co-working optional if you prefer an office.
- Promote-or-out at 6 months — full-time offer as a BDE or an honest goodbye. No ambiguity.
- Tooling subsidised: Apollo, Lemlist, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Claude — you should not be paying for the tools you use to hit target.
How to apply
